Cooking Weekend (Suitable for Vegans)

Join us for two nights and three days for a wonderful weekend of vegan cooking — all through the medium of Welsh!

You don't have to be vegan to join us. However, all food served at Garth Newydd during the weekend will be vegan, as will all the recipes we prepare.

The immersive weekend will be led by Marcus Whitfield, with Steve Woodward taking charge of the cooking. Among other things, we'll learn how to make a delicious vegan curry and even attempt to make vegan Welsh cakes!

Accommodation & Cost

Stay at Garth Newydd in your own single room for £175 for the weekend.

To reserve your place, simply pay a £75 deposit today.

About the Weekend

Spend a weekend cooking, eating, chatting and socialising while surrounded by Welsh in a warm, friendly and supportive environment.

Alongside our cooking sessions, there'll be plenty of conversation, games, gentle walks and shared meals — all through the medium of Welsh.

Everything is designed to encourage you to use the Welsh you already know and build your confidence in a relaxed, pressure-free environment. Making mistakes is simply part of learning!

Our aim is to speak Welsh throughout the entire weekend, but you'll be supported every step of the way. This isn't about speaking perfectly — it's about communicating, trying new things and discovering just how much Welsh you can use when you're surrounded by encouragement and kindness.

Hopefully, you'll leave on Sunday with some new cooking skills, greater confidence in your Welsh, new friendships — and perhaps a few recipes to try at home!

What's Included

  • Two nights' accommodation at Garth Newydd
  • Breakfast and one additional meal each day
  • Vegan cooking sessions
  • Games and conversations in Welsh

Departure: Sunday 18 October, around 1.00–2.00 pm

Why Lampeter?

Lampeter is one of the best places in South Wales to hear and use Welsh in everyday life. At Garth Newydd, you'll enjoy a comfortable and welcoming space created especially for Welsh learners.

Please note: We aim to speak Welsh only throughout the weekend, with plenty of support to help everyone take part.

Booking Information

As a small organisation, last-minute cancellations have a significant impact on us.

Your £75 deposit is refundable only if you cancel at least 14 days before the weekend. After that point, deposits cannot be refunded or transferred to another event, as it is rarely possible to fill places at short notice.

About Garth Newydd

Garth Newydd is a Community Interest Company (CIC), run on a not-for-profit basis for the benefit of the community. Every booking helps us improve the centre and support future Welsh-language activities.

Come ready to cook, speak Welsh, challenge yourself, make new friends and enjoy a weekend of living through Welsh — with plenty of encouragement every step of the way.
