December Weekend in Wales
Join us at Garth Newydd for a relaxed December weekend of chatting, socialising and practising Welsh in the heart of Lampeter.
This is deliberately a low-key, informal weekend. There are no lessons and no packed timetable — just plenty of opportunities to use the Welsh you already know, spend time with other learners and enjoy being surrounded by the language.
The weekend will be led by Marcus Whitfield, who has been learning Welsh for seven years.
About the Weekend
The idea is simple: spend a couple of days living through Welsh in a friendly, relaxed and supportive environment.
We'll chat, cook and eat together, play a few games, go for a walk if the weather behaves, and generally enjoy each other's company.
There are usually several events happening around Lampeter in December, so we'll see what's on locally and make the most of the weekend as it develops.
There will also be an opportunity to meet some of the people from our local Welsh-speaking meet-up group, giving you the chance to use your Welsh with people from the area.
And, with Christmas approaching, there will undoubtedly be plenty of conversation about Nadolig, Welsh traditions, food and everything else that comes with this time of year!
The emphasis throughout the weekend is on speaking rather than studying. Making mistakes doesn't matter — the important thing is communicating and discovering how much Welsh you can already use.
Our aim is to speak Welsh throughout the entire weekend, but you'll be surrounded by other learners and supportive Welsh speakers, so nobody needs to worry about speaking perfectly.

Stay at Garth Newydd in your own single room for £175 for the weekend.

Who Is Running the Weekend?
The weekend will be led by Marcus Whitfield, who has been learning Welsh for seven years and can guide you on your learning journey pointing out the pitfalls on the way and offering you tips to speed up your learning
The weekend is about getting together with like-minded people, using the Welsh we have and helping one another become more confident.

Arrival: Friday 4th of December from 5.00 pm
Departure: Sunday 6th of December, around 1.00–2.00 pm

Lampeter is a wonderful place to hear and use Welsh in everyday life. At Garth Newydd, you'll have a comfortable and welcoming base created especially for people who want to spend more time actually speaking Welsh.
Please note: We try our best to speak Welsh only throughout the weekend, with plenty of encouragement and support to help everyone take part.
Booking Information
As a small organisation, last-minute cancellations have a significant impact on us.
Your deposit is refundable only if you cancel at least 14 days before the weekend. After that point, deposits cannot be refunded or transferred to another event, as it is rarely possible to fill places at short notice.
